"Success is dependent on effort"
-Sophocles, Greek Dramatist

I agree with this statement because all your success comes from all the effort you put in. The more effort you put on something, the most highly you will succeed on anything that you desire, but if you put little effort then most likely you won't succeed. for example, say you have a test and you need to study for it. Putting effort would be studying and doing everything possible to past that test. Putting little to no effort would be you not studying and failing the test.

How to take on College Studying part 2

How to take on College Studying part 2

Choose where to study depends on two factors: the environment in which you are best able to concentrate and the type of work you are planning to do.

·        The best places to study have a good light, a comfortable temperature and enough desk space—usually your dorm room, your apartment or the library.

·        For completing problem sets or brainstorming possible test question, you may want to study with a group or at least in a setting where fellow students are available for discussion.

·        When you are reading book chapters or working on a research paper, you are probably better off in a less social environment.

Improve Your Study Habits

Here are simple steps you can take to help you get a handle on studying:

·        Have a routine for where and when you study.

·        Choose reasonable and specific goals that you can accomplish for each study session.

·        Do things that are harder or require more intense thought at your most productive time of the day.

·        Take breaks if you need them so you don’t waste time looking at material but not absorbing it.

·        Get to know students whom you respect and can study with or contact to ask questions

·        Keep up with the workload and seek help when you need it.

"Choosing the right is always the right thing to do."
Alex Linares

I agree with this statement because on its own it clearly explains that the right thing to do is to always choose the right. For example say your friends are inviting you to go to the movies but you have a huge assignment to turn in tomorrow. The right thing to do would be to stay in and work on your assignment than going out with your friends. If you choose to stay in, then you are choosing the right. If you choose to go out then you are obviously choosing the WRONG.

Tip 5 . Review your Notes Every Day

Reviewing helps you reinforce what you’ve learned, so you need less time to study before a test. You’ll also be ready if you get called on in class or have to take a pop quiz.

Tip 6 . Get a good night’s sleep

your brain needs rest to perform at its peak. Lack of sleep makes

Tip 8. Become a Taskmaster

Give yourself a time budget and plan your activities accordingly. Figure out how much free time you have each week before you add any commitments.

Instead of agonizing and procrastinating, just do it. Wasting an entire evening worrying about something that you’re supposed to be doing is not productive, and can increase your stress.

Tip 10. Determine Your Priorities

you can’t do everything at once. Establish the importance of each item. Then set realistic goals that are attainable.

"It's better to be alone than to be in bad company"
Anon

I agree with this because of so many things. One example is, at aprties, many people have the habit to do drugs like marijuana, and cocaine and such. One person does it because they see more friends doing it and that is just not right. These people would be consider to be the bad company. What if you were not doing anything and cops come to the party and get everyone including you. That is the wrong choice of hanging out with those who bring bad to your life. It would have been better to be alone than to be in bad company.

"Improvement begins with I"
Anon

I agree with this statement because it is very true. You are the only one who can improve your way of living or anything of that sort not anyone else. Just you, yourself, and that is it. Even the Word "Improvement" begins with I. In my case only I have the potential to improve anything that relates with me not any one else. I have my own power over my actions, not anyone else. It's my life and I improve what I need to improve in. The same goes out to any one who is willing to improve something in their life.

3) Heart: Always do what is right so your heart, your conscience, will feel peaceful. When you do wrong, your conscience will prick you and create regretful sensations within your heart. When you do what you honestly feel, you won’t have any regrets. Your heart is your internal compass— it gives you direction and discernment. Just like a magnetic compass gives directions, even true north, your personal compass, your heart, will point you need to trod.

4) Soul: Study scriptures and other sacred literature daily. In other words, feed your spirit because your spirit needs spiritual food just like your physical body needs temporal food to survive. Pondering, mediating, and reflecting are excellent Soul-Sharpen activities. Try writing your thoughts, feelings, aspirations, concerns, and decisions in a diary or journal. Writing helps you focus and make good decisions.

Reflection; Sara, Mallory and Liz

It was about a girl named Sarah who played baseball. While on the game this girl messed up her knee to a point where she couldn't participate any longer. But some girls of the opposing team, which were named Mallory and Liz picked her up and ran her to the finish!

I think this was such a thoughtful thing to do. No person does this in their ordinary lives. This shows how caring and loyal these two girls are to their piers and their favorite game!

1)   Body. Eat wholesome foods, fruits, vegetables, legumes. Avoid illegal  drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco products, tattooing. Exercise regularly and effectively. Get plenty of rest at night. Get to bed early at night and get up early each morning. “Early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
Helen Keller

I agree with this quote because of many reasons. One example is, say there's this girl who is doing a project and she actually does good in it but if you add someone more or even 3 people more this project can over acheive. Sometimes people think they can do everything alone, but that's not true. We all need a helping hand.

Habit 6

Habit 6: Synergize

Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create something better than either could alone. Through this habit, teens learn that it doesn’t have to be your way or my way but rather a better way, a higher way. Synergy allows teens to value differences and better appreciate others. Synergy is the reward, the delicious fruit you’ll taste as you get better at living the other habits, especially at thinking Win-Win and seeking first to understand. Learning to synergize is like learning to form V formations with others instead of trying to fly through life solo. You’ll be amazed at how much faster and farther you’ll go. Synergy doesn’t just happen. It’s a process. You have to get there. And the foundation of getting there is this: Learn to celebrate differences.

A good band is a great example of synergy. It’s not just the drums, or the guitar, or the sax, or the vocalist, it’s all of them together that make up the sound. Each band members brings his or hers strength to the table to create something better than each could alone. No instrument is more important than another, just different.

Sean Covey

I agree with this statement because a lot of people try to do everything possible to be cool. Some people even choose the wrong and do drugs, drink under the influence and such. By doing this they forget of all the consequences they can have because all that is in their minds is that they want to be cool. They forget all the great benefits they can achieve by doing what is right. They choose what's easier to do and majority choose to do wrong. CTR will take you far. CTW will take you down.

Habit 5

5. Seek First to Understand, and Then to be Understood

Because most people don’t listen very well, one of the great frustrations in life is that many don’t feel understood? This habit will ensure your teen learns the most important communication skill there is: active listening.

Why is this habit the key to communication? It’s because the deepest need of the human heart is to be understood. Everyone wants to be respected and valued for who they are—a unique, one-of-a-kind, never to be cloned individual. People won’t expose the soft middles unless that feels genuine love and understanding. Once they feel it, however, they will tell you more, than you may want to hear. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,

Listen with your eyes, heart, and ears. 7 percent of communication is contained in the words we use. The rest comes from body language (53 percent) and how we say words, or the tone and feeling reflected in our voice (40 percent). Most people are eager to talk and had rather talk than listen. We have one mouth and two ears. This means we should listen twice as much as we talk. We actually learn more while listening rather than we talk. Learn to listen and listen to learn.

Listen, really listen, for understanding.

Seek first to understand then to be understood—LISTEN.

My Valentines Day Story.

 Valentine’s Day Story

Once upon a time there was this little boy named Dylan. He was really excited about Valentine’s Day. Dylan really liked this girl in his class; he thought that she was beautiful. Dylan would always wake up in such a great mood because he knew he would see the girl of his dreams. She was young with very green eyes and she was also very thin. Her hair was long and golden, her skin color was pale and those tiny freckles that rested upon her face. Dylan wished he could be those freckles. He would always observe her in school. He really wanted to talk to her. She was the girl of his dreams. He never talked about her within his friends. All he knew was that he had to tell her how he felt about her. She was a gem to his eyes.

It was a week before Valentines Day. HE promised to himself that he would tell the girl he liked how he feel about her, but when the time came he couldn’t do it. What he ended up doing was; he went to the store and bought her a dozen roses like a boss, a bear, chocolates and jolly ranchers. He was very excited to give her the surprise.

It was finally Valentine’s Day. He went up to the girl of his dreams and told her the way he felt. The girl replied “The feeling is mutual” but she did not want to have a boyfriend for now. Dylan was sad, but at the same time he was happy to know that the girl he likes actually liked him back.

He ended up giving her the presents and she gladly thanked him. Dylan was very happy but as soon as she thanked him, Dylan had woken up.

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens

7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens

Habit 4

4. Think win-win

Teens can learn to foster the belief that it is possible to create an atmosphere of win-win in every relationship. This habit encourages the idea that in any given discussions or situation both parties can arrive at mutually beneficial solution. Your teen will learn to celebrate the accomplishments of others instead of being threatened by them. Win-Win is a belief that everyone can win. It’s both nice and tough all at once. I won’t step on you, but I won’t be your doormat either. You are about other people and you want them to succeed. But you also care about yourself, and you want to succeed as well. Win-Win is abundant. It is the believe that there’s plenty of success to go around. It’s not either you or me. It’s both of us. It’s both of us. It’s not a matter of who gets the biggest piece of the pie. There’s more than enough food for everyone. It’s an all you can eat buffet.

Win-win always creates more. Perhaps the most surprising benefit of thinking Win – Win is the good feelings it brings on. The true test of whether or not you are thinking Win-Win or lose-win thinking will cloud your judgment and fill you with negative feelings.

Win-win will fill your heart with happy and serene thoughts. It will give you confidence. Even fill you with light. Think Win-Win or no deal.

Habit 3

Habit 3: Put First Things First

Habit three is about will and will not power. This habit helps teens prioritize and manage their time so that they focus on and complete the most important things in their lives. Putting first things first also means learning to overcome fears and being strong during difficult times. It’s living according to what matters most. Putting first things deal with things:

Important or not important urgent or not urgent. Let’s look at the four quadrants of time management

Quadrant 1: Things that are Important and Urgent

Quadrant 2: Things that are Important but not Urgent

Quadrant 3: Things that are not important but are urgent

Quadrant 4:  Things that are not important and not Urgent

1.  Important & Urgent
2.  Important but not Urgent
3.  Not Important but Urgent
4.  Not Important and Not Urgent

Quadrant 2 is the ideal place to spend our time, doing things that are important but not urgent. Here’s where priorities come into play. The results for living Quadrant 2 are:

1.  Control of your life

2.  Balance

3.  High performance

So, in what quadrant are you spending most of your time? The key is to shift as much time as possible into Quadrant 2 and this is accomplished by planning. Spend more time planning and incorporating the most important things first, things that matter most. Keep your eyes on the prize and reach for it.

Bad habits are the unlocked door to failure. Thus, the first law I will obey, which precedeth all others is—‘I will form good habits and become their slaves.’”

OG Mandino

I agree with this statement because it clearly tells you that you either succeed or not succeed based on your own life choices.
When he says he will be a slave of his good habits he means that he will forever choose the right! Therefore we must all always choose the right no matter what happens. For example back in the days when slaves were not illegal, by force had to obey their superiors, well it is the same with our good habits, only that our good habits are our superiors and they are actually good and not bad like those slave owners. We must always look at our good habits in many ways.

Habit 2: Begin with the end in Mind

If teens aren’t clear about where they want to end up in life, about their values, goals, and what they stand for, they will wander, waste time, and be tossed to and fro by the opinions of others. Help your teen create personal mission statement which will act as a road map and direct and guide his decision-making process.

“Keep your eyes on the prize.” Determine your desired prize and don’t quit until you have realized the achievement of your prize. Then set another prize, another goal or desire that you would really like to achieve. Begin with the achievement of your prize in my mind; know where you are going.

Habit 1: Be proactive.

Being proactive is key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility for her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball in in their court, that they are the captain of their own ship; that they are in control, control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told what to do, they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement of their assignments, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligations. "You make your habits and your habits make you"
Anon

I agree with this statement because it speaks the truth. For example when it says "you make your habits" It mean that you are the one witht he power to do something that is wrong or bad and make it a habit. Only you can prevent it or begin it. When it says "your habits make you" it can either be positive or negative. It can be negative when one of your habits over powers you and makes you do bad things for example like using drugs, after you do it once it may become a habit and that is not good. A postive example is doing your homework everyday right after school and on time. Doing this frequently will get you the habit of doing good in school and this will later affect you in a good way in the future.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

By Sean Covey

For teens, life is not a playground, it’s a jungle. And, being the parent of a teenager isn’t any walk in the park, either. In his book, the 7Habits of Highly Effective Teens, author Sean Covey attempts to provide “a compass to help teens and their parents navigate the problems they encounter daily.”

How will they deal with peer pressure? Motivation? Success or lack thereof? The life of a teenager is full of tough issues and life-changing decisions. As a parent, you are responsible to help them learn principles and ethics that will help them to reach their goals and live a successful life.

While it’s all well and good to tell kids how to live their lives, “teens watch what you do more than they listen to what you say, “Covey says. So practice what you preach.  Your example can be very influential.

Covey himself has done well by following a PARENT’S example. His Dad, Stephen Covey wrote the book The 7 habits of Highly Successful People, which sold over 15 million copies. Sean’s a chip off the old block, and no slacker. His own book has rung in a more than respectable 2 million copies sold. Here are his seven habits, and some ideas for helping your teen understand and apply them:
